check.

I am about a week into the new semester. You would think I was two months in judging by the minor meltdown I had the other day when my printer refused to print two-sided (didn't it understand I was trying to save the world by using less paper?!) and then decided not feed paper through at all.
Commence tears and acts of aggression towards the printer.

I think I was just overwhelmed by all the reading I have to do this semester. Six classes worth of reading. The good news is, all the classes are interesting. Well, all the history classes are interesting. That one creative writing class I am taking is going to be a crack up. Because, as my history professor said,

"When asked to journal History students tend to freak out. They aren't used to writing down their thoughts.

We have it drilled into our heads that we should write facts and leave our opinions to ourselves. History is not theory. At least not as an undergrad. So anyway, after the freak out I ran over to OfficeMax to get some organization supplies, namely, a planner.  And boy, does it feel so good crossing to-do items off. Seriously, after reading two of my assignments and crossing them off the list. I just sat there, in the school library, looking pretty pleased with myself. Admiring that line, hovering over the title which I will never have to read again. Bliss.

What does one wear to a Hurricane?

Its going to rain like crazy here this weekend. Irene is supposed to make land fall north of us so we should be relatively safe and the good news is, Sunday is supposed to be sunny with clear skies. All we have to do is make it through the next couple days! It's actually kind of hard to believe in this Hurricane. I mean, they have been talking about it for well over a week. All those weird maps on the weather channel with the circular white mess moving in the general direction of the South seem to make a strong case that this is very real. However, the past few days have been sunny and humid. Just like normal. I guess it really is the calm before the storm. I know that this Hurricane can to a lot of damage and if people aren't careful and don't heed the warnings they could be in a lot of trouble. But still, it seems strangely surreal to me. We weren't in town last year for Hurricane season so it's our first real experience. I'm used to Earthquakes. I know what to do in the case of major shaking, but flooding? I'm thinking about investing in a raft, just in case. Or a kayak. But you want to know what's really frustrating? It's going to rain like crazy but still be about 80 degrees. Gross. This makes getting dressed in the morning sound very unappealing. But I do. I put clothes on. But its against my better judgement.

o.m.geeeee!!!

EEeep! The first day of school coincided with the day my boots arrived! I'm gonna go ahead and chalk that up to a good great day. These boots. I tried to talk myself out of them because they are on the pricey side. But, after two weeks of going back to the website every 10 seconds to drool I decided to purchase.
My first real leather boots, guys.
That's class.
And comfort.
Oooh so comfortable.
Like slipping my feet into butter.
Except that sounds kinda gross. It's like slipping my feet into really soft leather. Because that's what I am doing. I never thought I would say this but Fall cannot come soon enough. These babies will be on my feet for the next four months. I. cannot. wait. for. Fall.

pictures or it didn't happen

One of my very good friends lives in Norway, so when I saw this article on BBC I was excited to read more about the beauty of her new home (though she does a great job of that on her own, see here). The one line that stuck out to me, though, was,

“Don’t take a camera, and don’t post about it on Facebook – just climb a hill or do a walk, and keep the experience for yourself.”

I love that. It seems like everything we do needs to be publicized. We have this need to say "I did this" and, "look at me here!" When really, the focus should be on enjoying where we are in the moment and not who will acknowledge it later. I am so guilty of over-sharing. We live in a society of exhibitionism and I am a part of it. But I hope that I am always aware and appreciative of what I am doing when I am doing it.

Way to Go, Paula!

Remember that scene from An Officer and A Gentleman when Richard Gere strides in to Paula's workplace and rescues her from a life in a factory? Well, yesterday was just like that for me. Except Dan didn't rescue me from my factory line job. But he did stride into American Eagle carrying some pretty yellow flowers in the middle of the day. And he's an officer, so he's just like Richard Gere.
Yesterday on my way to work my car started giving me trouble. When stopped at a red light, with my foot on the brake, instead of idling like normal that little Cavalier just died. In the middle of the street, died. So, I  quickly popped it into neutral started the car and kept driving when the light turned green. Then another red light came and it happened again. Then the major thoroughfare was reduced from four lanes to two lanes and you can imagine that my Chevy did not want to cooperate in stop and go traffic. Nope, not at all. During all this I had called Dan freaking out. My side of the conversation went something like this: "This is a devil-car! I am going to die!!!" Told you I had a flair for the dramatic. His response was much more calm, "Alright, I'm leaving now. Can you pull over in a gas station and call work to see if someone can pick you up?" Gosh, so logical. I felt so relieved to have him on his way that I instantly relaxed. Somehow I maneuvered my car into an Exxon parking lot and called AE. About two hours into my shift husband comes walking in with flowers. But instead of carrying me out of the factory, I took my ten minute break and we got an Auntie Anne's pretzel. What a perfect ending to an Officer and a Gentleman Part Deux. A more perfect ending would be that my car gets out of the garage for under $100 dollars, but who are we kidding this is real life.

my blog. my show.

Blog Name

Back in high school I was a theatre kid. You know, theatre class, high school productions, community productions, dreams of fame. My best friend and I always had a flair for the dramatic. We would crawl across the room channeling Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, we would yell "This is Nazi Germany!" at the horrible yard duties who wouldn't let us go to our cars after our campus closed -- we were nuts and, when we get together, still are.

Well, our favorite movie of all time was "Get Over It." If you haven't seen it you need to. It's got a dream cast: Kirsten Dunst, Ben Foster, Mila Kunis, Shane West, and the incredible Martin Short as Dr. Desmond Forrest Oates.

Oh yeah, and Sisqó. Sisqó, people. Enough said.

Anyway, they are doing A Midsummer Nights Rockin' Eve, a musical all the while the movie is based on A Mid Summer Night's Dream. At one point the lead male in the musical gets pummeled by a huge sand bag and his leg breaks.

Theatre is his life.

So, as he is rolled out on a gurney by the paramedics he yells, "This is my theatre, my show! Forrest Oates is my special buddy!" It gets us every time.

So when I was considering blogging I was trying to figure out what to name the blog. Of course I went to my best friend, and blogging guru, for some naming advice and she says, "My Theatre! My Show!" And it was just too good to pass up.

I tweaked it to My Blog so people wouldn't confuse this for a theatre/actor blog and the rest, as they say, is history. So thanks, Bran. I think I'll keep you around.

my boyfriends back and you're gonna be in trouble...

I think he prefers the term husband though. He has been gone aaalllll week and I've missed that guy. I drank my sorrows away with a six pack (of root beer) and two out of four dinners this week were Mac & Cheese because Dan wasn't here to say "How can you eat that stuff?" Yep, Kraft Mac & Cheese. The kind with cartoon noodles (which I still maintain makes them taste better!).
Anyway, he is coming back tonight! Which is great because neither of us are very good phone talkers. And cuddling just isn't as fun by yourself. I tried cuddling with Houston but he just made some weird noises and wiggled around until I let him go which is actually kind of similar to Dan's reaction when I try to be the big spoon, is it me?

god bless you

I work with little kids. Kids are dirty. I expect to get dirty while working with little kids. After any shift working at the Y Summer camp I want to take a shower. Their little hands have been all over me and I have seen how well these kids wash their hands after a trip to the bathroom (gross). I am not an overly clean person but 50+ kids and all their germs? You get the picture, showers are needed. But yesterday took the cake. One little girl brought a brush and wanted to play with my hair so we sat down in the gym and she began to (with her dirty little fingers) work with my hair. I am actually enjoying it; I love when people play with my hair (I always ask Dan to scratch my head and he thinks its weird but he'll do it).
Then I hear it, "AaaaCHhhooo!"
I freeze a little and ask, "Hey sweetie, did you cover your mouth when you sneezed?"
 "Uh-huh, I did," she responded.
Molly, my co-counselor, laughs and says, "Ya, she covered her mouth, with your hair!"
Oh gosh, so gross. But what could I do? I still had 4 hours left in my shift. Mmmm sneeze juice in my hair for four more hours. Thanks sweetie :)

dump.

So, if you look to the right of this post you'll see a list of past months and numbers. Those numbers obviously tell you how many posts written in said month but I think they also tell you how busy my life is (except for those first few months which simply tell you how uninteresting/boring my life was).
I have been so lax in posting this summer and that probably has something to do with my four summer classes (straight A's, baby!) and two jobs not to mention the fabulous visit with my sister this past week (hence the photo dump). All of these things add up to very little time on my hands. Unfortunately, this time crunch doesn't seem to be letting up in the near future. Fall semester starts next week and I just bought twenty-four books for the occasion. Twenty-four. You can imagine I'll be spending a lot of time on my bum with a book in my hands this Fall. Luckily, that is one of my very favorite places to be. Can you believe Fall is almost here? I'm trying to talk myself out of some insanely-expensive-but-oh-so-gorgeous boots that Fall keeps urging me to purchase. I'm trying to listen to the frugal part of me but it almost seems futile, Fall always wins

Ha.

Husband and I had a good laugh over this one.

sister days

Seriously, yesterday was fabulous. Having Annie here has been a blast. We got mani/pedi's yesterday and then went to the beach for some tanning and wave-jumping. Sisters are the best. :)

weekend + sister visit.

I have a thing for farmers markets.
 I love them.
There always seem to be baked goods and I am a sucker for a good scone. We did that Saturday morning and.... pong may have been involved in the evening activities.

And, finally, my kid sister arrived! And already she is trying on my clothes and looking better in them ;) Ya, I gave it to her. I couldn't help it, she looks fabulous!

apparently...

I don't have time to post anything but I do have time to play with photo booth on my mac. Seems perfectly logical to me. A video tour of our new place is coming soon so, if you're into that sort of thing, make sure you check it out! Cable guy is here. Ah, the joys of consistent (legal) wifi internet.
