A little snow day walk

It's snowing here in Northern Virginia. I believe it's snowing all over the northeast as well but don't take my word on that - check instagram. There really isn't a better time for a snow day than on the day right after a holiday. Not only did we get a three-day weekend but then this snow day made it a four-day, which makes the it a three-day work week. And that is what we call grand in our neck of the woods.

Judging by these photos you would think that maybe we live in or near the woods. You would be wrong - we live off a major thoroughfare but there is a trail near us. A trail with skinny trees all around it and when it snows it looks like a winter wonderland.

All of this and we have come to the conclusion that snow days are pretty great. They are a bit cold, because our basement apartment has a sole space heater to keep us warm, but they are days for lounging, and playing wii golf, and Lost marathons. So, hurrah for snow days! Hip, hip!

Back on the road

Last weekend we went up to the snow with my fam. It was nice to be up in the quiet. We celebrated the birthdays of me and grams at a tasty little Italian restaurant.

It was a relaxing and beautiful weekend.

At sone point I do plan to share the photos I took with a real camera over the past few weeks but for now it's easy to post with iphone pictures in the road.

We are heading to LA this week for an event at UCLA. Im hoping to take of tour of the law program while we're there and Dan can show me around his alma mater.

snow day!

I think I was misinformed because I thought I lived in The South. The place that birds fly to in the winter because it is supposed to be warm. Wrong. It is snowing. So much snow that my orientation is cancelled. Not that I was smart enough to check my e-mail last night because if I had checked my e-mail I wouldn't have woken up at 6:30 to be out the door by 7:30 to walk in the snow, for which I am still ill-prepared, until this nice UNCW police officer pulled over to ask if I wanted a ride to Burney Center, where I met some cool new transfer students who also were unfortunate enough to have neglected their e-mails and so we waited. We watched the snow fall until some sweet young girl with her new-age smart phone checked her e-mail and it said "Orientation Schedule Change." We dispersed quickly as no one wants to be outside right now -- they all to their cars and I started my walk back home. It's not a long walk and luckily I was smart enough to wear boots and now I am home. My husband, who went to work this morning, is driving (slowly and carefully) to his friend's house, close to the base, to wait out the storm. The base was shut down but not early enough that he didn't have to drive all the way out there. I don't think they know how to deal with snow (which is promising because that must mean it doesn't happen often). These snowflakes are HUGE. Anyway, all that to say, the snow sucks because it came on the day when I was going to register for classes, lame (but pretty).
