Rah, Marine.

I was going through old photos to share for Veteran's day and I just love these. It feels like forever ago that he was in but it's only about two years since his contract ended. I couldn't be prouder of Dan and his service. Some days I miss that uniform...

A military photo shoot

Well, sorry for the photo dump. We got our pictures back and I love them! I think that first one is going on a wall.

I tried to do a themed shoot. I wanted a little vintage military flair.  The dress is a 1960s original (and I think it was hand made as there is no tag). I was hoping for a sixties vibe but I've heard everything from 1920s to 1940s - at least it looks like a different era to some degree, right?

I like the idea of having these photos for posterity. So when (if) we have kids they can look back and see that we did this. Dan did this. He served his country and he was really proud to do it.

It would be nice to find photos of family who served during their lives as well - there is this one I remember, it's just a snapshot, of my grandfather in his navy uniform with a duffel bag tossed over his shoulder.

Anyway, I'm so happy with how these turned out. Dan looks so good in that uniform.

It's election day

And I'm so glad it's almost over.

In other patriotic news, I've been wanting to get photos of us taken with Dan in uniform. He's almost done with his contract and I wanted to commemorate his time in service.

We just took them Saturday so I don't have them yet but the photographer posted a couple previews on Facebook and I am so thrilled by them! I can't wait to see the rest.

pretty little things

MMmmm. The Marine Corps Ball. It's quite possibly my favorite part about being married to a Marine.
Not so much for the Ball part, we don't really know anyone that goes, but because I get to buy something pretty.
I love pretty things. And this one, well, I liked it when I ordered it but I LOVE it now that I have it in person.
Seriously, I feel like Kate Middleton in this dress. And who doesn't want to feel like the hottest woman on British soil? The answer you're looking for is no one.

p.s. Do princesses change their last names? Does she go by Middleton anymore? If I were her I'd demand that everyone call me Duchess. Just for kicks.

Day Twelve:
A Photo Of You

We went to the 235th Marine Corps Birthday Ball tonight. And this is my pretty dress, I love it. I got it from Modcloth.com. It just reminds me a little of Jackie O and I so wish I could be Jackie O.

And these are my shoes from Shiekh shoes and you can't really tell but they are covered in black sequins and are so sparkly. I love getting dressed up! Dan wore his Dress Blues (I'll put up our picture tomorrow, I have to scan it and I'm just too tired) and he looked smashing. We had a wonderful evening.

and we're back

Dan graduated from the Naval Justice School on Friday morning -- it was the shortest and most pleasant military event I've been to to date! They were sworn in and Dan was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He looks so good in his uniform!

We had packed everything in the truck the night before so after the ceremony we jetted to the car and got on the road. The trip is a 13+ hour drive without traffic, but seeing as we were going to pass through NY and DC we were expecting traffic somewhere on route. We wanted to make the whole trip in one big drive, we just couldn't stand the idea of sleeping in another hotel room. Dan accomplished it like a pro. It was a long drive and we didn't get home until about 12:30 am (that's about 15 hours in the car). We made it home and crashed pretty hard. But when we woke up in our apartment the next morning, it was alll worth it.
