Nailed it.

This was the first ever pin I pinned on Pinterest. I really though this project was way out of my reach when I pinned it. Surprisingly, it was not that hard.

I learned a lot during this project. Like, maybe I should know the measurement of the final quilt before I start piecing together the thing (I ended up having to cut more fabric and extend the whole thing so it would fall nicely over our Queen size bed.)

Overall the cutting was the most trying part - it just took a long time. Once it started coming together it was so exciting. I paid to have it quilted by a local woman because the quilt is too big for my little machine (total measurements are 92x96). She did such a great job. I couldn't believe it when it was finished. I could hardly wait to put it on our bed!

Here are some iphone shots of the making process:

Aaaannnd, the finished product:

We love it. I can't stop staring at it when I'm in the bedroom. I keep giving myself little pats on the back - I'm pretty proud.

Someday we'll have this and maybe these but for now a beautiful new quilt makes me happy.

p.s. this is where you can find the (free!) pattern

The art of taking on too many things at once

Aside from working two jobs and studying for the LSAT, I've decided that this summer I should also make the quilt I've been lusting over for what seems like ages. It was my first and still my favorite pin that I ever pinned on pinterest (although the too-cute-for-life Bernese Mountain puppy steals my heart every time).

So I started the process of buying the fabric. I say process because fabric is expensive and I don't want to waste this project with cast off pieces that kinda, sorta fit the bill.

I want fabrics I will love, because if this turns out it's going to be the new bed topper at the Burkhart abode.

I'm excited and nervous about this project. It's the biggest one I've taken on yet.

got my hair did.

Initial curls
Brushed out.
Mmmm. Pinterest. A collision of all the best ideas.
I've done a few of the pinterest inspirations around my house. Refrigerator cleaning, picture hanging, and now, hair!
My hair is in this in between stage where it was super layered (I used to have a mullet of sorts, which I loved but then I moved away from my hair stylist and friend and no one out here could recreate well, lame) and now I am trying to grow it out. And, of course, the one time I want my hair to grow, it takes for-ev-er.
Curling my hair has been the bane of my existence but I am always down to try a new technique. I tried the no-heat-sock-bun-on-top-of-your-head one but my hair is waaay to layered and short for that. Luckily, I found this other technique on pinterest, also no heat, that would work with layers. I think I even did a little fist pump upon stumbling across it. Here is the idea/pin: no-heat-curl
So, I tried it last night. The process took all of about 7 minutes. Slept in it, no complaints there. And, voila! It was super curly when I took it out but I brushed it out a little and it looks great! Also, I'll have to try harder next time to make sure the back under pieces done because I had to re-curl some of them. But, really? Easiest hairstyle ever
Now to See how long it lasts.
